Fishing & Charters
The Salmon season kicks off in late
June thru to October with all five species of
Salmon;
Spring, Coho, Pink, Sockeye and Chum passing thru the area en-route to
their spawning grounds.
When you are not busy fighting
Salmon, take time out to enjoy the
majestic
Orca
Whales as they travel back and forth in the
strait chasing
the
Salmon.
Halibut fishing is available in late spring thru to
November however is very dependant on the local tides as the area is
known for strong currents. During the change of tides; fishing
opportunities are provided. The majority of the Halibut caught are in
the range of 20 - 50 lbs however every year the elusive Slab is caught
weighing in at over 100 lbs.
Salmon are fished with the aid of electric
downriggers with the most common lure set up, being the Hootchie and
Flasher.
Your fishing license
Tidal Fishing Licenses are available "online" however it is recommended
that they be purchased from the sports stores in Campbell River prior to
travelling to Sayward.
Daily Possession Limit for Salmon varies dependant on the
species. Aggregate total is four Salmon, two of which can be Spring. Daily
possession limit for Halibut is one.
